boohoo.com- dress for under £20

i've been so ill for the past few days, so i've literally been bedridden with nothing to do but to troll through websites. after the number of times i've seen the clothing website Boohoo advertised on TV i couldn't help but have a look through the website. i mean, thats what the adverts meant to do right? #easytarget
if you haven't already visited their website then i definitely advise you do. although there is a load of stuff on there that should be banned (i.e those stupid 'all saints' style boots- these should be banned) i found a few amazing dresses that could pass off as a lot more expensive than they actually are. one of my favourite things to do is outfit build- hence why i spent most of my childhood on stardoll.com. and most of my teenage life. yeah, i still go on it. #needtogrowup- i've put together a few, in my opinion amazing, outfits. i've picked out the best dresses, and teamed them with a pair of shoes. and the best bit about it is each dress is under twenty quid!
let me know what you think, hopefully i can change your mind about these 'cheaper' clothing websites instead of first base being topshop- where to be honest, the quality is just the same, you just end up paying double the price for something that doesn't last long. remember, just because it's from topshop doesn't mean it's the best, it probably came from the same factory as most of these dresses did-

;dress, shoes and collar from http://www.boohoo.com/
this pleated flare dress screams fifties dance and is perfect for a meal and a few proseccos. team with some mega heels and this on trend pearl beaded collar for extra impact. the shoes will add length to the look which is exactly what a fit and flare dress needs, with the beaded collar finishing the top of the dress off. with the fifties being the decade of spring summer 2012, i'd get this dress while you can ladies!

now bringing you swiftly into the sixties with this peterpan lace shift dress. the black suedette boots give a monochrome feel yet still giving a gilry vibe to the outfit. the outfit reminded me of something the young twiggy would wear, so i reckon the perfect thing to finish this outfit off would be some really heavy top lashes, teamed with some thinner bottom lashes to get the sixties vibe. have a look at earlier posts of mine in relation to bottom lashes and the easiest way to apply them.

now moving up a decade to the seventies, this is definitely my favourite outfit of the lot. i love the 70s inspired print and think the pastel blue looks great with these sweet red block heel peep toes. the most vintage look of them all, embrace your pale pins and finish the look off with a layer of MAC ruby woo.

inspiration for this outfit has originated from the punks of the 80s and alexander mcqueens latest tartan IT dress. wear with the must have flats of the moment in the form of these studded, slipper, leather look shoes and a waxed biker jacket. nip in your waist and show off that figure with a skinny studded belt.

dress, slippers and choker from http://www.boohoo.com/, sandals from http://www.topshop.com/
go BOHO with this next outfit. the geometric print and scalloped neckline resemble festival chic. the dress looks great with tan shoes, and is the perfect look for a holiday stroll around the town. wear with this gold tribal choker for a effortless night look, and the tan sandals for a chilled-out day look.

the most fast fashion outfit out of them all, the monochrome shirt dress challenges the androgynous tuxedo look, with its edged collar and PU waistband, whilst giving a fifties vibe with the flared above the knee skirt. the dalmatian print chelsea boots add extra trend to the outfit, finishing off with the tweed fedora for a more masculine feel. for added effect, button the dress all the way up to the top button for a more edgy and challenging look.

a little bit of history-

heres something you maybe didn't know-
i was watching a world war II documentary the other day, and it came to my attention that not only was the german fashion designer Hugo Boss around at the time of the war, he actually designed the nazi uniform by request of Hitler. Hugo Boss was a loyal nazi, and a follower of national socialism, and used forced polish and french labourers in his factories. since then, the company have issued an apology, coinciding with the publication of a recent book based on the history of the company, claiming that Boss had joined the nazi party in order to save his company. it is also stated that boss housed most of his forced workers, and the conditions in which they were living in and were treated were very far below satisfactory or even liveable.

the hugo boss advertisement for nazi uniform-

hitler wearing hugo boss

researching this, i also found that both Porsche vehicles and Volkswagen Beetles were specifically rquested and made for Hitler and the priveledged people of the nazi party.
studying fashion, i find snippets of history linked with fashion far more interesting than the mundane chatter about catwalk shows and high end samey designers. knowing the history behind something is far more interesting to read about.

pain is beauty- isn't it?

it has been revealed today that the famous american fashion designer Marc Jacobs uses a very classy way of keeping the shoes on his models on the runway- wig glue! of course! during the recent Louis Vuitton ss2012, it is stated that the models feet were glued into their shoes- and by the looks of this models foot, the wig glue isn't the only problem- (and i don't mean the fact that the shoes look like they're from primark. even though they do)

Ouch! Models' heels were blistered and marked with dried blood at Paris' Louis Vuitton s/s 2012 show. Here, a model's foot appears far too large for the shoe

with battered, blistered and bruised feet squashed into a size too small shoes, no wonder the models are falling head over (very well stuck) heels;Don't want to see this again: A model went flying on the slippery runway at a Marc by Marc Jacobs show in February 2010
#oops
so maybe this is a very clear insight into the not so glamourous going-ons backstage in these catwalk shows. who knows what will come next? will the models be asked to cut off their little toes to fit into a pair of designer shoes for a two minute walk, like they did in the 1800s?
(i just googled this to find out the exact era this happened in, and someone had asked in 2009, "would you cut off your little toe to fit into some sexy shoes?"- are these people for real! i was joking!)

this got me thinking. recently, there has been a lot of press, scandal and news based around the PIP breast implants. i wonder if in 100 years time we will look back at breast implants and wonder why we ever wanted to draw attention to our breasts and enlarge them. maybe it's just a fashion for the next few decades, and bum implants will be more the norm in the future. maybe we will look back on breast implants the same way we do about the cutting off of the pinky toes?

back and ready to roll

happy belated new year readers. the reason for my lack of posts recently is the result of an extremely busy christmas being chilled, and the pure feeling of guilt if i spend more time on my blog and less time on uni work. christmas was great, drinking and obviously being merry. but i am back and will hopefully fill those five minute spaces you guys have when reading my blog, with something to read that interest you. keep reading guys, i really appreciate it.
