the karlie kloss scandal

 an american model voted third in ranking on the top 50 model womens list by models.com and vogue paris declared her one of the top 30 models of the 2000s. but why? until recently, i hadn't even heard of the name karlie kloss and her face just merged into the huge canvas of models with similar faces and skinny bodies. however, vogue italia recently posted some pretty contreversial pictures of a new shoot of karlie kloss revealing a very skinny frame and hardly any clothes. not that this is a problem, as there are many beautiful naturally slim ladies out there and karlie does have a stunning face. being slightly younger than me (and i'm only nineteen) the controversy and statements surrounding these pictures must be hard for such a young girl to take in, but obviously this is the industry karlie is letting herself into.

after first thoughts from the industrys people of karlie looking 'amazing' in the shots and probably going even more higher up in the top model rankings, it then came to everyones attention just how thin the nineteen year old actually looked. as if they didn't notice this already? there were also reports karlie had been overly photoshopped, which is blurring our ideas of what we are led to believe is perfection, as catwalk models are perfect, right?  to be fair, looking at her face, she doesn't look to be overly photoshopped, just maybe a little airbrushed and touched up. so after vogue italia heard these comments, the photos "mysteriously" disappeared from the website. the editor in chief claims firstly she did not know the pictures had been taken down, and then went on to say she had removed the images not because karlie looked too 'skinny', but that the pictures can easily be labelled and linked to which would cause unecessary debates.

do you think this is wrong? firstly, karlie is a victorias secret model, which is a brand known for its models gorgeous figures, but personally i think karlie is leaning slightly more over to the 'too skinny to admire' side of modelling, setting a bad example of perfection. no doubt karlie is naturally skinny, however as vogue italia, and i quote, "wanted the images to become iconic", isn't this setting a bad example from vogue of how icons should look? surely icons are role models, and role models are inspiration to the younger generation, influencing their life choices and physical appearance.

it makes me wonder, will we ever see entirley curvy models being used as ideals of perfection in the 'showbiz' world. obviously, these models, and any celebritys in fact, are people in the limelight we see all the time, analyse and look up to. i think it is so wrong that people believe curvy models shouldn't walk the catwalk, and they would prefer to see a merely alive skinny frame sporting clothes that you should be influenced by them to buy.

take this years x factor for example; the winners being little mix have had a hard time throughout the competition, as one of the girls in the band has been struggling with her own insecurities about her weight after being targeted by a lot of the nation about her weight compared to the rest of the band. however, the rest of the band are so small, skinny and young, it is more normal and average to find someone of jessies figure on the high street or out in a club, rather than the other smaller band mates. jessie shows that a normal sized teenage girl can achieve dreams and put her insecurities behind her, and feel confident enough to stand there in front of thousands of people and feel beautiful. in my opinion, she represents normal and the beauty of what a woman is no matter what shape or size.

i do not do any exercise. whatsoever. i eat takeaways once a week, and i am on average eight stone and a half. for my lunch i try and choose a healthier option, however i do not live off seeds and dust. if buying a sandwich, i will choose the one with less dressing and brown bread. if i am going out for lunch, i will have whatever i like. for over a year now i have been the same weight, and i believe this is due to me having a healthy balance on good and bad food in my diet. my figure goes right in at the waist, and right out at the hips. i have curves and i am very proud of this, as long as i stay close to this weight and do not balloon out (which i am still waiting for due to the amount of times i eat out) i will be happy and confident. so girls, like these ladies, be proud of the body god gave you, it makes who you are.
